Earth is entering a stream of high-speed solar wind, and this is causing G1-class geomagnetic storms on February 16th. This is not the CME we have been waiting for since Valentine’s Day. Instead, the solar wind is flowing from a coronal hole on the sun. Visit for photos and more information.

This generally means GPS RTK will not fix as quickly or render as high precision. Spend more time on each point to improve precision.


Leap Second Introduction June 30, 2015

We would like to bring to your attention important information related to the introduction of a leap second by the IERS

(International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service) on June 30, 2015. The introduction of a new leap second has been announced to be introducedfor June 30th, 2015 at 23:59:59. This will increase the difference between UTC and GPS time by 1 second to new 17 seconds.

All care is being given to assure that SmartNet North America GNSS infrastructure is not adversely affected by this introduction, but similar care should be taken by all SmartNet North America users on their GNSS rovers as well.

Quick Guide for Attaching Geoid 12 Files in Leica Viva & SmartWorx 1200

In Viva:

1. Transfer desired Geoid file to Internal Memory or Card in Geoid directory:

Int mem: Leica_Geosystems/Smartworx/Data/GPS/Geoid
Card: Data/GPS/Geoid


2. In data collector go to the Main Menu then 2 Jobs & Data:

-Select Job Properties and go to Coordinate Systems tab
-Choose desired coordinate system (or create new one) and press F3 Edit.
-Scroll down to Geoid File field and press Enter key.
– Select the New/desired Geoid file from selection  – (may need to choose from Int Mem/Card via F6 key). Press F1 Store.

In 1200 SmartWorx:


1. Transfer desired Geoid file to Internal Memory or Card in Geoid directory (Data/GPS/Geoid)
2. In Smartworx go to Main Menu then to 3 Coordinate Systems.
3. Choose desired coordinates system and press F3 Edit.  Scroll down to Geoid file field and press ENTER key.  Select new/desired Geoid file and press F1 Store.
